It's very expensive to reprint back issues or collections, especially if you can;t predict how well they will sell. With digital publishing, they can offer readers the chance to enjoy classic older issues that otherwise would not see the light of day. I have never purchased those hefty black and white collections. Who wants to read a comic in b/w?! To steal a line from Dire Straights, publishing this older stuff, which is also unlikely to have creator royalties attached is like getting "money for nothing." Just a couple of notes. It would take some serious incentive-based retraining to get me to forgo the print versions. Where is the collectability in a digital comic? How do I get a digital comic signed? On the other hand, if I also had a digital version of my favorite comics, I wouldn’t have to worry about ever getting chocolate smudges on the print version.
