By day, I am a producer, on-air correspondent, podcaster and raconteur in the new media business. By night, I write novels for teens and am the author of The Mockingbirds, to be published by Little, Brown in November 2010.

I think one of the real opportunities for the big comic publishers (Marvel, DC) is to mine their back catalogue. It's very expensive to reprint back issues or collections, especially if you can;t predict how well they will sell. With digital publishing, they can offer readers the chance to enjoy classic older issues that otherwise would not see the light of day. I have never purchased those hefty black and white collections. Who wants to read a comic in b/w?! To steal a line from Dire Straights, publishing this older stuff, which is also unlikely to have creator royalties attached is like getting "money for nothing."

I love how you are so supportive of your fellow authors--that tee shirt rocks! Can't wait to see you wearing a Mockingbirds shirt. : )

As a recovering Comic Book Geek, I am intrigued by the idea of stocking a bunch of comic books on my iPad to read in my down time—especially some of the rare old classics that I have never actually read. Just a couple of notes. It would take some serious incentive-based retraining to get me to forgo the print versions. Where is the collectability in a digital comic? How do I get a digital comic signed? On the other hand, if I also had a digital version of my favorite comics, I wouldn’t have to worry about ever getting chocolate smudges on the print version. Hmm…
