My Book

Stay tuned for book news. Here is some info on my novel, The Coming Attraction

Kat Harmony, a 35-year old New York shop owner, has lived her life according to the movies. Only she left out a little thing called love in her script. Then a handsome new business partner walks into her life and sends Kat’s bag of popcorn flying into the aisle. Brad and Angie, Kate and Spencer — it’s just like the silver screen. Except Kat is married. Okay, not happily, but she has a husband and two kids and she has never done anything like this before.

Until the lights went down.

Now, Kat must figure out whether life follows the movies, the movies imitate life or if she must choose her own path.

The Prologue from The Coming Attraction

“What I wouldn’t give for the chance to say one really great line.”

–Get Shorty

When the lights go down in the theater, I am ready to pretend. In the dark of a movie house, I’m no longer a wife, a mom. I’m the characters on the screen.

I exchange a knowing glance with the handsome man across the crowded
room. We share a lingering look. I turn back to the others. Then a hand brushes against my shoulder. I shudder. Close my eyes. Feel him near me.

Everyone else fades away. He’s suddenly the only one there.

He kisses me. I kiss him back.

My head is spinning, my heart is jumping. I am that girl on the screen and I’m having what she’s having – the movie kiss.

For two hours, I’m living someone else’s life.

Then the credits roll, the movie ends, and my fantasy fades to black.

I’m back in the maroon upholstered chair, left with only a barely touched, too salty tub of popcorn at my feet and the ever present, sickly sweet smell of jujubes and twizzlers that were mashed into the floor long ago. I come down from my temporary high, still wanting, still wishing, knowing only that I’ll need another movie, another fix, to feel this way again.

I stand up, walk out and leave my movie kiss behind me.

Because kisses like that only happen when it’s make believe.

At least, I always thought so. I wouldn’t know.

I hadn’t been From Here to Eternity, It Didn’t Happen One Night, and I had never had An Affair To Remember.

Until I met him.
