I've got TweetDeck open all the time I'm at my computer. I'm also part of a couple of mailing lists of professional artists who exchange work and advice. It's better for long form discussions and large graphics. Plus, I've got a handful of other professionals I can call when I just need to vent. Not that I don't use my "regular" friends for that, but with the pros, there's no translation involved. You can say, "This writer gave me a ten panel page with crowd scenes" and not explain why that's such a big deal. As a work at home cartoonist, I do the Twitter thing as well as Facebook. I go to the internet for company. All my writer friends live far away, which is sad.
