>I just turned in the acknowledgments to my editor for “The Mockingbirds.” Want to guess how many people I thanked in them?
Forty-eight people. I thanked forty-eight people BY NAME.
Wow. I am either excessive or I enjoy an embarassment of riches in friends, family and professionals who made my dream a reality. I like to think it’s the latter.
Because while writing is a solitary task, conducted alone at a computer, these acknowledgments are a reminder that none of that alone-time-with-a-computer would have been possible without the pros who sold and bought the book, the family who cheerleaded and gave me space to write, the writers who read it, the experts who weighed in, the friends who cheered me on every single solitary step of the way, and the two dogs — one who’s moved on and one who’s still with me — who sat at my feet for almost every word not written in a coffee shop or an airplane. I am humbled and awed that so many people helped me realize my greatest dream!
I thank you all. Only eleven more months til you all can read it! And buy it!

48 people? Impressive! I just read your interview on the L and L blog. Nice job!
Shelley
Thank you so much for visiting my blog the other day! I completely agree that writing and the pursuit of publication could not be done without the support of all those around us.
Awww…your puppy is so cute! Everyday it’s coming closer and closer to being…The Mockingbirds time! Can’t wait.
What’s next? The cover?
Hi Kimberly!
Cover is coming very soon.
Shelley: Thanks for stopping by here and at Laura and Lisa’s blog.
Marsha: Blog love to you too!
1. 48 people!?! Does that mean we’ll have 96 since there’s two of us? Do you think they’ll give us double the space? Yowza.
2. Your dog is adorable.
3. Your guest post is a raging success! Thanks for sharing your genius with us if only for one day.
4. Can’t wait to see your cover!
5. Have you ever considered doing a step by step blog feature about marketing for authors? You could either organize it by where an aspiring author is at in their career (just finished manuscript, got an agent, on submission, etc) or chunk it into different topics (branding, PR, print marketing, social networking, etc). I sense people would LOVE that. And we’d definitely link for our readers.
This line: “I enjoy an embarassment of riches in friends, family and professionals who made my dream a reality.” I LOVE this. What a joyful thing to be embarassed about. I want to be THAT embarassed like that too!
Thanks for commenting on my blog! What a nice surprise. I enjoyed the post on LiLa’s blog and am so impressed with yours. Fresh look and bright writing.
I think it’s amazing and classy that you took the time to thank so many in your acknowledgments.
That is so exciting and gratitude is just endearing so all I have to say is GREAT! I’m excited to read your book.
48!!! I loved on your FB status, I think it was, where you said 48 guaranteed sales.
I wish I’d thought of that!!! But writing acknowledgments is wonderful, isn’t it? It’s a nice moment to pause and reflect.
